The Keys to Success Project

This project is aiming to be a local flagship and an example to other areas around the UK to help young people between the ages of 15 - 25, through developing a unique multifaceted centre which will be designed to serve as a multi–use service hub. This will provide a wide variety of transitional 24/7 care, support and semi independent living accommodation, health and fitness, education, training and employment opportunities throughout the services offered within the centre and by creating social enterprises.

Suitable premises for the centre have already been identified by the Directors and it's location, size, flexibility and status fits within the local area.

This project will utilise the premises and will be operated under-one-roof, managed by I Can in the NE whilst working closely with its partners within the public, private and third sector.

The plan is to remove as many barriers for young people by creating a positive environment and community within a one stop, multi facetted centre of services.

The centre and services will also be open to the families of the users, the wider community, private and public sector organisations.

The buildings and grounds will have some unique features and the fixtures and fittings will be of high quality, energy efficient and environmentally friendly (this initiative links into the North East of Englands' ethos for renewable energy).

The general centre will consist of the following facilities;

o Supported Accommodation,

o Teenage Pregnancy Unit,

o Drug and Alcohol Unit,

o Family and Parent Unit,

o Education, Training and Classroom Facilities,

o I C T Facilities,

o Quiet Room and Library Facilities,

o Gymnasium, Swimming Pool, Sauna and Spa Facilities,

o Café, Restaurant and Catering Facilities,

o Hairdressing and Beauty Facilities,

o Office Space and Social Enterprise Facilities,

o Allotment, Nature and Gardening Facilities.

The project specifically aims to provide variety of transitional 24/7 care, support and semi independent living accommodation to help young people develop the skills, experience and understanding of independent living, with a view to enabling them to live independently in the community with the focus upon personal ownership.

This work not only focuses on the practical side, but also embraces the emotional impact associated with this major life transition.

Through this project, I Can in the NE aims to develop tailor-made arrangements and joint working between the local authority and other partners to provide seamless, 'wraparound' services for young people, based on their needs.

It's a known fact that when there is no involvement, there is no commitment. I Can in the NE's Directors will put their best endeavours into ensuring that they instil a sense of purpose and personal ownership throughout, which has been proven to have a greater impact on pride, respect and sustainability. The inclusion of the young peoples' views will be a vital part throughout the thought process, design and delivery and the Directors will be inviting them to join decision-making panels and will also empower these young people to bring about improvements in the quality of services which affect them.
